Artist Spotlight: Jazmine Vallis

“I love to make music that’s different and unique than your typical mainstream songs.”

About the music

“Secrets” by Jazmine Vallis is the autumn song you didn’t know you needed. It is spooky and themes for the fall, but also has a very important and valid message of honesty underneath it.

Get to Know Jazmine Vallis

1.  What first sparked “Secrets” for you? Was there a specific moment, emotion, or story that pushed you to start writing the song?

I was inspired by a line from a thriller movie I watched and as soon as I heard it, I instantly knew I had to write a song about it.

2.  The song release was tied to Halloween and you posted: “Secrets shouldn’t stay buried, especially not this one.” What role did timing and aesthetic play in the release and branding of the track?

“Secrets” has a very spooky/eerie vibe to it so I thought a Halloween release would be perfect for its branding. The word secrets alone and the “shhh” within the production is mysterious, which definitely adds to the overall branding of the track.

3.  How did you approach the production of the track, choice of instrumentation, mood, and feel, to support the lyrical themes?

I came up with a chord progression that I felt best matched the spooky tone that the song needed. Especially given the hook “graveyard”.

4.  You’re credited as a singer-songwriter who spans many genres. How did “Secrets” fit within your genre-blend vision? Did you lean more one way than usual for this track?

I love to make music that’s different and unique than your typical mainstream songs. With “Secrets”, I wanted to create something unexpected and a little unusual, and let that edge push my genre-blending style even further. I leaned into a darker pop-rock feel because I wanted the track to carry a creepy energy that matched the story I was telling.

5.  How do you hope listeners will relate to the song? Is there a particular message or takeaway you want them to hold onto?

I hope listeners connect with the idea that everyone has things they try to hide. At some point, those secrets surface no matter how hard you try to keep them buried. The message is really about facing the things you’re afraid of before they grow into something heavier. It’s a reminder that being honest with yourself and others can prevent a lot of damage later.

Final Thoughts

We have many winter songs and almost no autumn/halloween songs, Jazmine Vallis’s “Secrets” is filling that void.
